Prof. Dr. Nilgun Alptekin Demirkol was born in Bayburt in 1957. She completed her high school education at Istanbul Bilir College and graduated from the Department of Chemical Engineering at Yıldız Technical University in 1983.
Academic and Research Background:
- In 1984, she began her specialization in the Department of Biochemistry at Istanbul University, completing it with a thesis titled “Liver lipid peroxide and glutathione levels induced by choledochal duct ligation in rats.”
- Following her specialization, she worked as a researcher for two years at the Gastroenterology and Peptide Research Laboratories of Tulane University in New Orleans, USA.
- In 1991, she commenced her PhD in the Department of Biochemistry at Istanbul University, completing it with a thesis titled “Comparison of methods used in the measurement of lipid peroxides.”
Academic Titles and Roles:
- She was awarded the title of Associate Professor of Biochemistry in 1997.
- On March 17, 2005, she was promoted to full Professor of Biochemistry.
- Between 2004 and 2005, she served as the Associate Professor Representative on the Faculty Board.
- From August 1 to November 1, 2005, she participated in the measurement of isoprostanes—a free radical marker—using mass spectrometry, as well as training on mass spectrometry techniques at W.A. Royal Perth Hospital in Australia.
