Dr. Nezih BERKSOY

Dr. Nezih Berksoy was born on March 11, 1962, in Konya, Turkey. His father, Dr. Celal Kutsi Berksoy, is an internal medicine specialist. The doctor completed his secondary education at Konya Maarif College (Konya Anatolian High School) and Ankara Science High School. He entered Istanbul Çapa Medical Faculty, ranking 70th, and graduated in 1986.

Education and Specialization Process

After completing 10 months of compulsory service in the Hamur district of Ağrı, Dr. Berksoy passed the entrance exam and began his specialization in Anesthesia at Haseki Hospital. He became an anesthesiologist in February 1992 and worked as a chief assistant for one year.

Career Progression

Dr. Berksoy started at Turkey Hospital on March 3, 1993. Between 1994 and 1997, he served as the operating room responsible physician. In 1995, he established and took responsibility for the Postoperative Intensive Care and Recovery Room Unit (PACU).

After working full-time at Turkey Hospital for 18 years, he started working part-time there in 2011. He also worked part-time for one year at Medicana International Hospital. He continues his work as an anesthesiologist at Yaman Surgical Medical Center.

Professional Memberships and International Training

Dr. Berksoy is a member of the Turkish Society of Anesthesiology and Reanimation (TARD), the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), and the Society of Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology (SOAP).

 In 1996, he participated in the New York Anesthesiology Society Postgraduate Meeting (NYPGA 50).

In 1998, he received regional anesthesia training at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. In 1999, he worked with Ronald A. MacKenzie, the 1st President of ASA, and Gary Vasdev, the head of the Obstetric Anesthesia Department at Mayo Clinic.

Contributions to Painless Childbirth

In 1999, Dr. Berksoy founded the websites www.agrisizdogum.com and www.dogum.info to promote painless childbirth in Turkey.

In 2000, he participated in the 12th World Anesthesia Congress held in Montreal, where he presented a poster on regional anesthesia.

His study on painless childbirth was also presented as a poster at TARK 2000, and it was later published in Italy.

The doctor attended the American Anesthesiology Congresses in Florida (Orlando) in 2002 and in San Francisco in 2003.

Books and Publications

In 2004, at the 13th World Anesthesia Congress in Paris, the doctor presented five papers related to regional anesthesia for hernia surgery.

 In 2007, he published his first book, “The Happiness of Painless Birth,” aimed at the general public. The book provides detailed information about normal vaginal birth and cesarean anesthesia and includes birth stories from mothers who had painless childbirth. Dr. Nezih Berksoy is married and has two children.
